Job Description
WUSA9 News in Washington, D.C. is seeking a Video Editor to join their News Department. This role involves close collaboration with executive producers, producers, and reporting staff in the newsroom. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication and organizational skills, work well under pressure in a team environment, and think creatively about editing. The right candidate will be a strong visual storyteller with good news judgment, detail-oriented, open to feedback, and willing to try new approaches.
Responsibilities
- Creative storytelling of the highest journalistic standards
- Editing a variety of video elements including voice-overs, SOTS, packages, graphics, and teases
- Operating non-linear edit systems; experience with Edius and Adobe Premiere is a plus
- Coordinating incoming video feeds to record
- Maintaining a professional demeanor and working effectively as a team player
- Multi-tasking by handling editing assignments, capturing feeds, and monitoring quality control while adhering to scripts and producer notes
- Collaborating closely with news producers, reporters, photojournalists, and the digital team to create an outstanding morning show
- Performing other tasks as required by the supervisor or executive producer
Requirements
- Experience with non-linear editing systems, preferably in a local TV news department environment
- Ability to create/edit material for on-air broadcasts and web while meeting deadlines
- Flexibility to work various hours, including mornings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required
- Adherence to brand guidelines and standards is essential
