Job Description

WUSA9 News in Washington, D.C. is looking for a part-time Video Editor to work in our News Department. This position involves closely collaborating with executive producers, producers, and reporting staff in the newsroom to create high-quality visual storytelling and maintain journalistic standards.

Requirements

The ideal candidate should:

  • Have experience with non-linear editing systems, preferably in a local TV news department environment.
  • Possess the ability to create/edit material for on-air broadcasts and web while meeting deadlines.
  • Be able to work flexible hours, including mornings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
  • Adhere to brand guidelines and standards.
  • Exhibit excellent communication and organizational skills, and work well under pressure in a team environment.
  • Be detail-oriented, open to feedback, and willing to try new techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Creative storytelling of the highest journalistic standards.
  • Editing various video elements including voice-overs, SOTS, packages, graphics, and teases.
  • Ability to operate non-linear edit systems; familiarity with Edius and Adobe Premiere is a plus.
  • Coordinate incoming video feeds to record.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and work effectively as a team player with news staff.
  • Multi-task by handling editing assignments, capturing feeds, and monitoring quality control editing to scripts and producer notes.
  • Collaborate with news producers, reporters, photojournalists, and the digital team to produce the best morning show possible.
  • Perform additional tasks as required by the supervisor or executive producer.
