Job Description

KCBS2/KCAL9, the nation’s largest duopoly and part of CBS Owned & Operated stations in Los Angeles, is seeking an experienced broadcast/digital journalist to join the digital team as a per diem/freelance digital content producer! The Digital Content Producer will be responsible for overall content production across various platforms, including the website, social channels, and stream. The candidate will write, copyedit, and produce news, manage the distribution of content on social media, and support the station’s multiplatform streaming objectives in both live and recorded formats. The role requires strong editorial judgment, breaking news experience, and the ability to independently pursue unique local content.

Requirements

The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:

• At least 2 years of experience writing news in a working newsroom.
• Breaking news experience and a passion for owning breaking news on all digital platforms.
• Ability to write teases, stories, and headlines for broadcast (Streaming) as well as AP style written content.
• Experience with content management systems.
• Adept conversational writing skills for engaging and relatable news content.
• Experience with various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and TikTok.
• Video and photo editing experience.
• Strong understanding of SEO strategies.
• Ability to work well under tight deadlines in a fast-paced newsroom.
• Basic understanding of news producing and how a newscast is assembled.
• College degree in journalism or communication or equivalent work experience required.
• Must be available to work mornings, evenings, and weekends.
• Strong attention to detail, ensuring the highest quality standards in news production.

Additional Information

The hiring salary range for this position is $23.23 - $27.00, depending on geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, a 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, a tuition assistance program, and PTO as applicable.
