Job Description

Berkeley Repertory Theatre (Berkeley Rep) seeks a highly motivated, collaborative, and curious part-time Graphic Designer. The position reports to the Creative Director and is classified as annual part-time, non-exempt, with a commitment of 20 hours per week at a compensation rate of $35 per hour. The graphic designer will provide general design and production support in areas such as advertising, print collateral, social media, in-house displays, and patron communications, while adhering to the organization’s brand guidelines. The role promises mentorship and professional development opportunities for individuals committed to a career in design.

Requirements

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 1–2 years of professional experience in graphic or visual design.
  • Strong understanding of typography, hierarchy/contrast, composition/grid, and colorwork.
  • Proficient in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Canva on Mac OS.
  • Eagerness to learn and develop design skills.
  • Keen eye for detail regarding type, grid, and copy.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with diverse personalities and manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Exceptional multi-tasking skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with high emotional intelligence and cultural competency.
  • Interest in and commitment to antiracism, equity, diversity, inclusion, and access.
  • An appreciation for the arts, particularly the performing arts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Adhere to Berkeley Rep’s brand guidelines in all design pieces.
  • Organize, store, and back up data and files appropriately.
  • Track and coordinate graphics with third-party vendors while adhering to union guidelines.
  • Create and revise print collateral as needed.
  • Manage the pick-up and delivery of print orders.
  • Create digital and print ads in varying formats using existing templates.
  • Support the creation of content for public, patron, and staff communication.
  • Participate in workshops, trainings, and meetings related to workplace culture and initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
