Job Description

The position of User Experience Designer 2 at UC San Diego’s Health Sciences department involves applying acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects of moderate scope and complexity. The designer will utilize user experience design concepts, methods, and techniques to resolve various user experience design issues. The role involves working on small-scale projects, limited to a small website, department, or components of larger projects, with a hybrid work schedule including both onsite in La Jolla and remote work.

Requirements

Minimum qualifications for the role include:

• Six years of related experience, education/training, or a Bachelor’s degree in a related area plus two years of related experience/training.
• Understanding of the user-centered design process (user research, user needs assessment, user modeling, design, usability evaluation, and developer relations).
• Understanding of design principles, guidelines, and relevant policies, including web accessibility standards.
• Skills in diagramming, prototyping, and using design tools.
• Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
• Effective time management skills.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Problem-solving skills and an ability to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
• Basic web and/or software development skills.
