JOB DESCRIPTION
A thriving, mission-driven multimedia organization, NPR produces award-winning news, information, and music programming in partnership with hundreds of independent public radio stations across the nation. The NPR audience values information, creativity, curiosity, and social responsibility. The Visuals Editor will help develop and deliver daily visual news video packages for NPR’s visual newscast. The position is a temporary contract that ends June 30, 2025, and is covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with SAG-AFTRA.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Produce, research and edit multiple short news videos from various sources on tight daily deadlines for NPR’s daily visual newscasts over different platforms.
- Collaborate with visual and newscast producers on daily video outputs.
- Pitch, script, film, and edit videos for NPR’s short form video initiative for various digital platforms.
- Set-up lighting and film short, in-studio video intros for the daily news product.
- Take photo and video assignments as needed for all NPR content.
- Uphold high standards for the visual tone of storytelling.
- Survey broadcasts and internal communications to enhance video storytelling.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Hours and days may vary and could include nights, weekends, and holidays based on coverage needs.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in video, photography, journalism, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
REQUIRED SKILLS
- 2 to 5 years’ experience editing video/photo for the web.
- Demonstrated experience in fast-paced editing of breaking news.
- Experienced videographer and photographer.
- Expertise in national or general news coverage.
- Ability to make quick editorial decisions under pressure.
- Strong journalistic ethics.
- Innovation in visual presentations.
- High standards of journalism under deadline pressure.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to relocate and work off-hour shifts.
- Ability to work well with diverse teams.
- Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
WORK LOCATION
- On-site: This role is based in Washington, DC.
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Knowledge of online video, photography, writing, and audio production.
- Experience with digital publishing software.
- Skills in producing on digital video and audio workstations.

COMPENSATION
Hourly Rate: The anticipated hourly rate for this opportunity is $42.07 per hour.
