Job Description
Hearst Newspapers is looking for a talented Lead Software Engineer (Front-End) to oversee the architecture and overall implementation plans for user-facing applications within an agile software development environment. The lead engineer will play a crucial role in collaborating with other team members, including engineers, QA, designers, product managers, and project managers, to establish and document front-end development standards and common components across web applications.
Responsibilities
- Provide development leadership within an agile team.
- Guide teams to build high-quality solutions to business problems.
- Share knowledge and collaborate with various departments.
- Mentor team members.
- Facilitate project estimates and coding.
- Keep up to date on the latest technologies.
- Mitigate project issues and conduct team code reviews.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or 7+ years front-end development experience.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team.
- Strong customer focus and self-starter mentality.
- Proficiency in an agile software development environment.
- Experience in testing front-end code for supported browsers and devices.
- Proficient in JavaScript, Typescript, HTML, and CSS.
- Production experience with Node.js and React.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with GraphQL.
- Production experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, DocumentDB, or AWS DynamoDB.
- Familiarity with PHP, MySQL, and Unix command line.
- Experience in functional programming patterns or languages.
- Proficiency in implementing reliable unit and end-to-end testing.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating standards-compliant front-end code for various web products.

Compensation
The reasonable estimate for this role, if hired in New York State, is $180,000. The final salary will be determined based on various factors such as skills, experience, training, certifications, and education.
