UW Information Technology (UW-IT) is responsible for strategic planning and oversight of the UW’s IT infrastructure and services. The Data & Applications team within UWIT manages enterprise data and systems that support the academic and business operations of the University. They provide essential teaching and administrative technologies, including support for systems like Zoom. The Enterprise Web Services and Events (EWSE) team is hiring a Senior Application Systems Engineer, responsible for designing and developing secure, maintainable, and scalable integration solutions using Web APIs and other technology.
Requirements
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of four years’ experience in development and support of enterprise applications and services.
- Experience as a .NET developer with recent experience developing Web APIs.
- Experience in cloud application design, preferably with Amazon Web Services.
- Recent experience integrating web applications with middleware services.
- Familiarity with code versioning, branching, and release methodologies (e.g. GitHub, GIT).
- Proficiency in software development life cycle and DevOps practices.
- Strong skills in software testing, documentation, and commitment to quality.
- Customer service mindset focused on delivering exceptional solutions.
- Understanding of secure design and coding practices.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, technical documentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Creative problem-solving abilities and collaborative team player.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code technologies (e.g., Terraform).
- Experience in Higher Education, preferably at a major research university (R1).
- Experience with open source development projects.
- Familiarity with Agile development practices, including test-driven development.
- Experience designing and building REST Web services.
- Knowledge of NoSQL datastores (e.g., ElasticSearch) and SQL query design.
- Experience implementing data access and application security policies.
- Familiarity with software architecture patterns (e.g., MVC).
- Experience with caching and load-balancing techniques.
Conditions of Employment
This is a hybrid position, requiring on-site work at the University of Washington Seattle campus at least two days per week. It is essential to report remotely during UW operational suspensions.
