Job Description

UX Designer required on an initial 3-month contract to help deliver on a government project, with experience in government projects being essential. The role is hybrid, requiring 2 days per week in the office and offers a rate of £500pd inside IR35.

The UX Designer will enhance user satisfaction by designing to fit in with GDS design patterns, building for inclusion with a focus on accessibility. They will need to understand the context and how users will access services, accounting for the types of devices and the circumstances of user interaction.

This position requires close collaboration with other services, including user research, content design, and interaction design. The UX Designer will supply user experience outcomes within an agile environment, including SCRUM, and will implement lean UI design and rapid iterations of visuals and prototyping into each sprint.

The designer will be responsible for embedding user needs into the team and all prototypes, working alongside the User Researcher, and helping the wider team understand UX design methodology and best practices. They will need to ensure design work is documented for reference and continuity of the project and manage prototype versions as designs evolve based on research.

The role also involves production of required artefacts, including customer journey illustrations, mock-ups, and prototypes, as well as reviewing user needs and user journeys at each sprint.

Requirements

  • Experience working on government projects
  • Proficient in GDS design patterns

  • Ability to understand user context and accessibility across various devices
  • Experience in agile methodologies, particularly SCRUM
  • Ability to implement lean UI design and rapid visual iterations
  • Collaboration skills to work with UX design colleagues and other services
