Job Description

This role will be pivotal in the design, build, support, implementation, bug fixing, and improvement of digital services at DVSA. The successful candidate will work within a multi-disciplinary team using Agile methodologies and will be responsible for developing well-designed software, managing junior colleagues, and producing clean, well-tested code that meets user needs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as Technical Lead for high-value initiatives, driving development standards and continuous improvement.
  • Making agency policy decisions on tool selection based on requirements analysis.
  • Creating a culture that manages technical debt and ensures continual software improvement.
  • Leading technical teams in problem-solving and technical optioneering.
  • Collaborating with Delivery Leads and Lead Developer management to ensure technical expertise is maintained across Digital Services.

Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • A sound understanding of value-based delivery and the ability to drive solutions through the development lifecycle.
  • Current technical experience in an open-source environment, specifically with PHP and JavaScript technologies.
  • A working understanding of Test-Driven Development (TDD) and quality software development in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience with Agile methodology as part of technical roles.
  • Appreciation of emerging technologies with the ability to assess and make recommendations for technical opportunities.

Location and Working Arrangements

This role can be based in Bristol, Swansea, Nottingham, Newcastle, Oldham, or Birmingham. Employees are expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their time at their base location, with regular attendance required at our Swansea office.

Pay Structure

The base pay for this role is £54,857, with an additional Digital and Data allowance of up to £25,543 based on skills and experience as demonstrated during the selection process.

Selection Process

The selection process will utilize Success Profiles and will assess candidates on behaviours, experience, and technical skills. Candidates will need to prepare a CV and a personal statement, providing detailed evidence of their qualifications.

Important dates for the selection process include the sift scheduled for January 8, 2025, and interviews on January 21, 2025, conducted via video.
