Job Description
We are seeking a talented and experienced P/T Temporary 2D Animation Supervisor/Director to oversee and lead our animation team through a critical phase of production. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in 2D animation, combined with leadership skills to manage, guide, and inspire a team of animators. This role is perfect for someone with a creative eye, strong technical knowledge, and a passion for ensuring quality animation that aligns with the project’s vision.
Responsibilities
- Supervise a team of animation graduates from Exceptional Minds to ensure smooth workflow and timely completion of animation and related tasks, including storyboarding, concept, character design, prop design, background design, layout, rough animation, clean up animation, color, compositing, and motion graphics.
- Direct the animation artistic team to match the needs of the client while maintaining consistency with established visual style.
- Provide and document clear, constructive feedback and guidance to animators to ensure animation quality meets project standards.
- Manage time and resources effectively to meet deadlines while ensuring the highest quality level.
- Review animation scenes and make adjustments or draw-overs as needed for accuracy and consistency.
- Collaborate with producers and stakeholders to track progress, identify challenges, and implement solutions.
- Troubleshoot animation and technical issues, offering creative problem-solving solutions.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior animators, helping them grow their skills.
- Participate in communicating strategies for artists to overcome challenges.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years experience as an Animation Supervisor, Director, or Lead Animator in 2D animation.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in 2D animation techniques and storytelling.
- Deep knowledge of animation principles and workflows, from storyboards to final animation.
- Proficient in Adobe Animate, Toon Boom Harmony, Storyboard Pro, Premiere, Adobe After Effects, Zoom, and Google Suite.
- Experience managing and leading animation teams, providing feedback, and maintaining a collaborative environment.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide verbal and written constructive feedback clearly and respectfully.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- A positive attitude, proactive problem-solving abilities, and a passion for creative collaboration.
Nice to Haves
- Experience working with creatives on the autism spectrum.
- Experience teaching post-secondary animation and related subjects.
- Knowledge of additional animation software and technologies.
- Familiarity with remote collaboration tools and workflows.
