Job Description

Join the rebellion at Rebellion, an independent video game developer and publisher with a rich history of 30 years. We are seeking an experienced Lead Game Designer with exceptional leadership and people management skills to guide our talented team on an unannounced project. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to shape development from the very start. Your responsibilities will include leading, inspiring, and developing your team while overseeing the project design team to deliver a high-quality gameplay experience. This position is based at our riverside headquarters in Oxford, which promotes a creative and relaxed atmosphere and offers relocation support. We value face-to-face collaboration, but understand that flexibility matters and are open to discussing hybrid work options.

Requirements

• Extensive knowledge of people management best practices.
• Broad business knowledge of the company structure, operations, and strategy.
• Willingness and ability to deliver high-quality results using necessary tools and processes.
• Expert knowledge of the video game development process, including timely execution and prototyping/iterating efficiently.
• Excellent knowledge of production pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Lead and inspire a team of Designers using best practice people management techniques.
• Manage the team’s performance and professional development through performance review cycles.
• Collaborate with Design Directors and the Production team to balance creative vision with production realities.
• Oversee the project design team and mentor designers.
• Review the team’s work against the design brief and provide actionable feedback.
• Verify design quality in the game and suggest improvements.
• Plan and conduct gameplay evaluations with the team.
• Act as an active mentor and role model, maintaining team morale and creativity.
