Job Description

We want you to #JOINTHEREBELLION! For 30 years, we have independently developed and published incredible video games at our multiple studios founded by Jason & Chris Kingsley. Rebellion is more than just games; we have our own film and mo-cap studio, create board games, publish books, and publish comics and graphic novels through 2000AD, such as Judge Dredd.

We are seeking an experienced Lead Game Designer with exceptional leadership and people management skills to guide our talented team on an unannounced project. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to help shape the development right from the very start. You will lead, inspire, and develop your team and mentor designers, overseeing the project design team’s work. Your focus will be to deliver a high-quality gameplay experience aligned with the project direction.

This role is based at our riverside headquarters in Oxford, offering a creative and relaxed atmosphere where teamwork drives success. We can provide a relocation package to ensure a smooth transition to your new environment. Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of people management best practices.
  • Broad business knowledge of company structure, operations, and strategy.
  • Willingness and ability to deliver high-quality results using required tools and processes.
  • Expert knowledge of the video game development process, including working in a timely manner, and prototyping/iterating within restrictions.
  • Excellent knowledge of production pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and inspire a team of Designers using best practice people management techniques.
  • Manage your team’s performance and professional development through performance review cycles, providing constructive feedback.
  • Collaborate with Design Directors and the Production team to balance creative vision with production realities.
  • Oversee project design team and mentor designers in all aspects of their role.
  • Regularly review team work against design brief and provide actionable feedback for improvements while incorporating stakeholder feedback.
  • Verify game design quality, give feedback to designers, and suggest improvements to fit technical constraints and artistic direction.
  • Conduct gameplay evaluations with the Design Director and team, providing feedback and suggestions for game improvement.
  • Act as a mentor and role model for the Design team, maintaining morale and fostering an atmosphere of creativity and enthusiasm.
