Job Description
A Mid Artist - Animation at Moving Picture Company (MPC) is responsible for creating efficient and high-quality animation for various visual effects projects. This role involves collaboration with Animation Leads and Supervisors to ensure appealing animation with convincing performances and physicality, adhering to the standards set by the Animation Supervisor based on MPCβs client expectations. The Mid Artist should also be capable of handling moderately challenging technical shots.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow the production schedule and complete tasks assigned by the Animation Supervisor.
- Attend Dailies sessions, present work, and take notes.
- Support their creative reporting manager (e.g., Senior, Lead, Supervisor) to facilitate the workflow.
- Thoroughly check the quality of their work before passing it downstream.
- Identify and communicate any setbacks that may impact deadlines.
- Propose solutions to technically challenging shots.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Line Manager or a Key Business Relationship.
Measure of Success
Success in this role will be measured by the ability to consistently meet task/shot/sequence/project deadlines while maintaining high visual quality and technical execution. Additionally, alignment with company values such as creativity, teamwork, innovation, and commitment to excellence in all work aspects is expected.
Qualifications
Technical & Soft Skills
- Previous experience in a VFX environment - Required
- Proficient knowledge of physics, performance, and anatomy - Required
- Proficient knowledge of camera terminology - Required
- Experience using Mocap and Facial Capture - Preferred
Preferred Software Knowledge
- Maya - Advanced
- Linux-based environment - Proficient
Knowledge Definitions
- Foundational knowledge: Sufficient familiarity with the subject to understand basic principles and terminology and to solve simple problems.
- Proficient knowledge: Sufficient knowledge to perform most work under normal situations, including comprehension of standard situations and significant aspects of the subject.
- Advanced knowledge: Advanced comprehension allowing the solving of both unusual and common work problems and serving as a resource for others in the organization.
- Expert knowledge: Complete mastery of the subject, used sparingly for positions requiring the origination of hypotheses, concepts, or approaches.
