Job Description

The Backend Engineer role is part of the Global Betting Platform team in Leeds, under Flutter Entertainment Group, one of the world’s largest bookmaking industry groups. The team is responsible for developing the flagship proprietary sports betting platform that supports multiple brands such as Paddy Power, Betfair, and Sportsbet. The platform generates 33% of total Flutter Group Sportsbook online revenue and has approximately 1.7 million active customers. The engineer will work in an agile environment to enhance the platform, focusing on writing well-designed, testable, and efficient code while participating in the full application lifecycle.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, candidates should have:

• Passion for building a great consumer product
• Comfort with Java (preferably 8+) or similar OOP languages
• Experience with high concurrency, high transactional, and highly available platforms
• Utilization of established design patterns

Additionally, it is desirable to have:

• Familiarity with client-server protocols such as SOAP and REST
• Experience working with Kafka and message queueing systems
• Knowledge of Scala, Akka, memcached, Apache Storm, Apache Cassandra, ZooKeeper
