Product Designer is needed in Canberra, Australia.

The Digital Business Division (DBD) has been established to bring together the retail digital functions from the Digital Trade Initiatives, Biosecurity Digital Reform Branch along with the Digital and Analytics Office within the Agricultural Trade Group. The purpose is to create a range of efficiencies in delivering best-in-class digital and data products. The division is responsible for a suite of mission-critical systems and services. Incorporating the Taking Farmers to Market (TFTM) and the Simplified Targeting and Enhanced Processing System (STEPS) programs. The division’s purpose is to deliver important digital business and service reforms for the Department. DBD is at the forefront of bringing about large-scale change to our agricultural export systems and bio-security cargo clearance systems, using the experience of our customers and stakeholders through digital transformation. DBD’s work is a departmental, ministerial and Australian Government priority which will continue to support Australia’s economic recovery from COVID-19. Digital and data offer compelling opportunities for transformation, allowing us to explore and rethink the way we build and deliver services. This ground-breaking work will have a significant impact as we deliver on the many services that will benefit the nation.

The Role:

The Department seeks experienced Product Managers who have a strong track record in digital transformations and have demonstrated capability of owning outcomes from Discovery through Alpha and Beta to live delivery of specified service lines. Ownership of outcomes, a razor like focus toward on-time delivery and the ability to work with and build Multi-Disciplinary Teams. Our Product managers understand the export process and our users, both internal and external that they are creating services for. They will be proficient at running projects end-to-end, managing competing priorities and the tactical demands of delivery a digital service in a complex environment. Product managers will work with Senior executives to align their product vision to the program, division, and departments strategic direction. Key Deliverables Lead the product teams to achieve their deliverables. Set the strategy and vision for the product and team. Own and prioritise the product backlog and set the goals for each iteration / sprint. Lead and enhance stakeholder engagement to the wider organisation. Ensure work is completed to the expected quality.

Requirements

Provides the product vision and roadmap for the digital services being delivered. This includes working with the stakeholders to create the product vision and understand key priorities. The Product Manager ensures there is a healthy prioritised backlog with clear user stories and acceptance criteria, setting the day-to-day priorities to fulfil the vision and manage stakeholder expectations. Experience in working in a multi-disciplinary team to set the product vision and manage stakeholders to iteratively deliver digital services.

Essential criteria

1. A track record of delivering technology products in large organisations

2. A demonstrated understanding of what makes for a great developer experience for external users

3. Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams that follow agile and user-centred design practices

4. Experience working on large Government transformation programs highly regarded

Desirable criteria

1. Knowledge, experience of, and relationships with the agriculture technology industry

2. Delivery of technology to support regulatory decision-making processes

3. Experience delivering to the Australian Government Digital Service Standard
