Job Description
As part of Enterprise Technology, the Web Site Development Engineer will serve the needs of the ASU web community by building and maintaining websites and developing web features within ASU’s Drupal-based CMS distribution, Webspark. They will work closely and collaboratively with project managers, UX designers, other developers, engineers, and customers to ensure that ASU’s public-facing websites follow ASU brand and web standards, are accessible, secure, and performant.
This position requires previous experience in Drupal 8+. The role has core responsibilities that include an intentional focus on inclusion and belonging, culture, and communications. With an increased emphasis on authenticity and compassion, this position strives to embody and advance our culture.
Responsibilities
- Site building and theming within our CMS framework (Webspark) using HTML5, CSS3, and other technologies.
- Feature development and customization within our CMS framework.
- Creates content templating, implements designs, and manages the technical aspects of implementing a standards-based user experience.
- Stays abreast of and applies web application accessibility best practices and standards.
- Promotes accessibility practices on teams and educates others in their use.
- Collaborates with customers, product, and service teams and others within Enterprise Technology and the university web community.
- Self-motivating and actively cultivates skills.
- Effectively organizes and manages own tasks and priorities in alignment with product and service leadership and deadlines.
- Proactively identifies and advocates for opportunities to improve the web ecosystem at ASU.
- Thinks ahead to solve problems before they become bigger issues, seeking help from senior engineers when needed.
- Collaborates across teams and participates in ET/ASU events and programs.
Requirements
- Previous experience in Drupal 8+
- Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
- Familiarity with using and configuring Drupal via the UI.
- Experience with web application development using modern JavaScript and/or React, and PHP.
- Familiar with Agile development methodologies.
- Knowledge of web accessibility best practices for WCAG 2.2 compliance.
- Experience with Git and GitHub, especially in working with multiple branches.
- Proficient in using JIRA or similar ticketing systems.
- Understanding of responsive web design.
- Familiarity with databases and SQL.
- Knowledge of secure web programming techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to model empathy, compassion, and emotional intelligence.
- Experience in values-led organizations emphasizing equity, inclusion, and belonging.
- Ability to foster a psychologically safe environment for all teammates.
- Ability to inspire changes in individual, institutional, and corporate behaviors for sustainability.
Salary and Benefits
Salary: $64,800 - $82,500 per year, depending on experience.

Working Environment
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting, involving extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse. Employees are required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances. Some bending, reaching, and lifting (up to 25 pounds) may be required. The role necessitates the ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities and communicate clearly to perform essential functions.
