Job Description

Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh, is currently looking to recruit a Content Designer (Accessibility Specialist) until March 2026 with the option to extend. This role will be primarily remote, requiring only one day a week in the office (Monday). The compensation for this role ranges from £224.35 to £241.57 per day (Inside IR35).

The successful candidate will report to the Senior Digital Manager and work as part of an in-house team to deliver innovative solutions across various digital media. Responsibilities include collaborating with internal clients, stakeholders, and suppliers to create accessible digital content such as videos, blogs, social media posts, and webpages. The role involves reviewing and amending existing content to ensure it meets in-house accessibility standards, managing the website via a CMS, and advising colleagues on accessibility best practices.

Requirements

Essential Skills:

  • A degree or professional qualification related to communications and/or relevant experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of accessibility standards and legislation.
  • Ability to design content that meets user needs and simplifies complex language and processes.
  • Understanding of the strategic context of work and its importance.
  • Experience conducting detailed audits of websites, services, and documents, and documenting findings clearly.
  • Robust experience in writing, editing, and publishing digital content, along with knowledge of content management systems.
  • Ability to identify stakeholders, gather relevant evidence, and manage relationships with them.
  • Use of data, research, and evidence to review and improve content.
  • Experience in providing accessibility training and support to internal clients.
  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • Solid knowledge of SEO optimisation and Google Analytics.
  • Proficiency in Word and Adobe Acrobat Reader to resolve accessibility issues.
  • Awareness and understanding of a variety of assistive technologies.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in the public sector.
  • Experience in creating accessible content and using monitoring tools such as Monsido.
  • Experience in managing websites using Umbraco.
