Job Description
Defiant is a small, dynamic, fast-growing, and profitable company that is a global leader in WordPress security, protecting over 5 million websites. We are seeking a highly skilled Video Editor with expertise in creating short-form content for platforms like YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Instagram Reels, and Facebook Reels. This role offers flexible remote working hours and is a contract/freelance position with an hourly rate of $35 - $50 depending on experience.
Requirements
The ideal candidate should have:
- 1+ years of experience in video editing, with a strong portfolio showcasing short-form content.
- Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, CapCut, DaVinci Resolve, or similar editing software (DaVinci Resolve preferred).
- A strong understanding of platform-specific trends, modern short-form video best practices, engagement tactics, and viral content strategies.
- Experience with motion graphics, typography, and sound design.
- Experience with marketing metrics, analytics reporting, and brand goal and strategy alignment.
- The ability to manage multiple projects with fast turnaround times while maintaining high quality.
Preferred skills and knowledge include:
- WordPress Expertise: Familiarity with WordPress, WordPress security, plugins (e.g., Wordfence), website management, and common vulnerabilities.
- Cybersecurity Knowledge: Understanding of cybersecurity concepts, malware, firewalls, and bug bounty programs.
- Tech & Software Knowledge: Experience editing educational or technical content, particularly in cybersecurity, web development, or IT-related fields.
Responsibilities
The Video Editor will be responsible for:
- Editing and producing high-quality short-form videos optimized for TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and Facebook Reels.
- Utilizing trending effects, motion graphics, text animations, and sound design to create engaging content.
- Repurposing long-form educational and technical content into bite-sized, shareable clips.
- Staying up to date with social media trends, video formats, and engagement tactics.
- Collaborating with content creators and the internal marketing team to align video content with brand objectives.
- Ensuring videos are optimized for SEO, audience retention, and platform-specific performance metrics.
- Maintaining a consistent visual style and brand identity across all content.
- Optimizing for brand goals, strategy, and results, not just for views or viral potential.
Hiring Process
We review all applications submitted and typically respond to candidates within one to two weeks. All interviews are conducted remotely with no travel required. A trial period of approximately 2-3 weeks will be required, with a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week. This short-term contract will be compensated and will serve to evaluate the mutual interest in pursuing an ongoing employment relationship. All offers of employment are contingent on the successful completion of a background check.
