Job Description

We are looking for a Design Lead to join our Lighting & Energy Solutions team in the UK, ideally based in Southampton, Newcastle, Manchester, or Birmingham. This role involves supporting the Strategic Road Network lighting team within the Highway sector, working on significant projects based on the National Highways Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF).
As Design Lead, your responsibilities will include supporting National Highways in delivering projects for the SDF Framework and assisting the Lighting Team Leader in quality control and assurance.
A Typical Week involves:
- Assisting with project administration tasks and document control.
- Providing stakeholder support and supporting procurement processes.
- Managing project charge codes, monitoring, and programming of delivery.
- Assisting in project reviews and delivering outcome reporting.
- Conducting lighting designs using Lighting Reality design or similar software.
- Producing MCHW specifications and supporting documentation.
- Involvement in asset clash detection and resolving clashes at BIM level 2 (desirable).
- Developing risk assessments and design decision documentation.
- Conducting site visits to check road lighting and safety installations (G39 and ECS card desirable).
Requirements
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate the following:
- Achieved a minimum of EngTech and working towards registration with the Engineering Council (EngTech, IEng, or CEng).
- Proficient in Lighting Reality Design Software and AutoCAD.
- Good electrical design and operations knowledge and understanding.
- Experience within lighting design projects and preference for consideration of environmental factors in highway lighting design.
- Ability to support the development of junior team members.
- Understanding of central management system technology design and implementation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with prioritization and flexibility skills.
- Fluent spoken and written English with good IT skills.
