Hi, my name is Ricardo Venâncio, and I’m an illustrator, storyboard artist and sequential author, based in Lisbon, Portugal. I started working in 1999, as an animation storyboard artist, and since then, I expanded my experience into mediums such as editorial illustration, concept design, storyboard for advertisement, and graphic novels and webcomics. I specialize in character and story driven visual narratives, be it in illustration, comic books, storyboards, and concept design. I have a wide range of styles, going from a more realistic approach to a cartoon stylization with ease, depending on the demands of the job. Highlights of my career include: - a collaboration with The Criterion Collection on the boxset for the Zatoichi, the Blind swordsman movie series; - a Line Webtoon 130 page webcomic called “The Purple Heart”, in collaboration with Dean Haspiel and Vito Delsante; - color work for various Marvel Comics titles; - my latest graphic novel, for Editions Dupuis, in Belgium, “Benfica - L’Imense Flamme”, written, illustrated and lettered by me. - storyboard work for all the major agencies and advertisement companies in Portugal, including Walt Disney Portugal, BBDO, TBWA, BAR Ogilvy, among many others.
