Born in Tehran in 1983, Saba Alizadeh is a leading figure in contemporary Iranian music. Trained in experimental sound practices at CalArts in Los Angeles, he blends traditional instruments like the Kamancheh with modern tools like the no-input mixer and modular synthesizer. Alizadeh’s compositions often incorporate manipulated historical audio recordings in a Neo Musique Concrete fashion, exploring sound as an object. His musical career encompasses both virtuosic solo performances on the kamancheh and experimental works with social and political themes.
Recognized for his mastery of both traditional and technological aspects of music, Alizadeh’s compositions offer a fragmented exploration of internal space, as praised by Songline magazine.
His Original soundtrack for ”The Musician”(shortlisted for the 94th Oscars in 2022) won the Tofuzi and Fimucite European awards.
He recently is nominated as a featured artist for the best original soundtrack at the German Film Awards (LOLA 2024).
His music has been released on two German labels Karl Records (Berlin) and 30M (Hamburg).
Saba is also the founder of “Noise Works,” a platform dedicated to sonic arts education and performance. In addition to his musical pursuits, Alizadeh is celebrated internationally as a photographer, with his series “Light & Soil” exhibited in prestigious venues worldwide alongside artists like Shirin Neshat. Son of the renowned musician Hossein Alizadeh, Saba has toured globally for over a decade, showcasing his multifaceted talents to diverse audiences.
