A kid at heart who never outgrew their Beatles and Radiohead phase, Cat Hiltz is equally at home in a string quartet as in a rhythm section.
Known for their work composing music for CTV’s Farming For Love and Hallmark’s Zest For Death: A Hannah Swensen Mystery, Cat has also licensed songs to shows Family Law (Global) and Motive (CTV), among others. Their performance career has seen them playing bass with Tegan and Sara, Queer As Funk, Jill Barber, and Rae Spoon. Defined by lush harmonies, warm textures, and a boldness if the moment demands, Cat’s music celebrates the human condition with unapologetic curiosity.
From being featured in Billboard as part of Music Publisher’s Canada’s ‘Women In The Studio’ accelerator, to producing tracks with Xana, Hyaenas, and Kristi Lane Sinclair’s podcast Indigi-demo-itis, Cat’s career reflects a passion for amplifying underrepresented voices and sharing stories less often told.
Cat holds a Bachelor of Applied Music (Bass), diplomas in Composition and Jazz Guitar from MacEwan University, and completed mentorships with Miriam Cutler, Brian and Caleb Chan, Howard Redekopp. In 2023, Cat was one of eight nationwide participants in the SOCAN Screen Composer’s Lab, working with mentor Robert Kraft. These influences, combined with two decades of touring across North America, Europe, and South Asia in a rock band, have shaped a musical voice that is as versatile as it is personal.
