I'm a Music Producer and Songwriter. I'm also a Music Publisher and Artist Developer, which sometimes means I'm also an accidental, reluctant artist manager! I was born in Memphis TN and moved to Nashville in my early 20s because that was the nearest music business hub, and it was easy to get to. Aside from working hard, I got lucky and signed a publishing deal pretty quickly with Universal Music. I had 4 cuts in the first three years and one of them was a #1 hit single. After three years, I left Universal and started a publishing company from scratch with a successful record producer, and things really took off from there. Of course there are lots of twists, turns and details, but to make a long story short, I really enjoy making records and writing songs and helping artists find their sonic path forward. _________________________________________________________________________________________ Employment & Project Experience Universal Music, Nashville, 1989 - 1991 Big Tractor Music, Nashville, 1992 - 2004 Chrysalis Music, Nashville / LA, 2004 - 2010 The Royalty Network, Nashville / NY, 2010 - 2013 RoundHill Music, Nashville / NY, 2013 - 2015 Inner Chimp Music, Nashville, 2017 - present Accolades: Emmy Award Winner, twice nominated for Best Original Song 16 ASCAP Awards for the most played songs on radio ACM Song of the Year Nominee Songs featured on American Idol, The Biggest Loser, The Voice, The Summer Olympics among others, in over 80 series and 560 episodes. I started working with this artist, May Kravitz, originally from Jerusalem, but living in New York before Covid. Her life experiences were much different than mine as was her use of the english language. The writing relationship had to be built on trust and it took me a while to get that from her. Hew voice was perfect, disarming and unique, and that was the whole point of the project to me. The task was always writing lines that she would speak-out, during the process, and finessing them into lines, with words, that would sing-out with beauty, without losing the jagged passion that was important to her. music vocal voice tone songwriters producer
uniE603 It's like flying down a hill with no brakes!
This is one of many songs I've written with Sin+. The band is from Italy, based in Sweden. They're a great live band and a lot of fun to work with. We write on Zoom. They always send a basic working demo of the track with a melody the morning of the write. I sit with them in real time, analyze the melody and phrasing to a fine point. We begin discussing what the track and melody suggest emotionally. I start throwing out lyric ideas as we listen, until they hear something they like. We usually don't know what the title is until we get there. It's an adventurous way to write but it works with us as a unit. It's like flying down a hill with no brakes, and hoping there's a soft place to land somewhere at the bottom! music creative wildride greatband
uniE603 A classic Nashville writing session.
This was a classic Nashville type of writing session. Grace West is the artist. Grace, Keesy Timmer and I have a standing write once per month. We get in my studio and start bouncing around different ideas until Grace likes one, then we settle in and start writing. We don't bother with beats, loops or tracks for this kind of session, we just grab a couple of guitars and we're good. By the end of the write, Grace has learned the guitar part and sets it into a groove that she feels and I record it right then. Then we cut a vocal and from that I have all I need to produce the single. vocal greatsinger songwriters producer
    uniE603 Quirky cool, SheTheArcher!
The first song is called, "Hate You Less" and I co-wrote with the artist, SheTheArcher. We wrote the song over Zoom, Nashville to Canada. I played the acoustic part, added percussion, then sent it to her to add another acoustic part and sing the vocals. I arranged the vocals and then built and played the rest of the track to the full production. record artist songwriter co-writer producer
