Sprouting out of the underground music scene in Montréal where she has lived since 2007, Tyr has developed her sound and visuals through Specialized Graduate Studies in Digital music at the University of Montréal (2022), and a Masters in Composition and Sound Creation (2024). With a background in classical and indie-rock music, her sound has evolved into an exhilarating audio-visual performance; multi-faceted and intricate, both catchy and cinematic.
Experimental and psychedelic, Syngja’s music is both haunting and timeless. Tyr has participated in artist residencies “Gullkistan, Center for Creativity” in Laugarvatn, Iceland," In House Outer Space", Reykjavik, Iceland (2022), “Arts Iceland” Isafjordur, Iceland (2017), collaborating with 4 other artists, and a 3-month Artist residency at Mothership NYC, with the financial support from Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ).
In addition to live performance, Tyr co-wrote a soundtrack to the documentary "Sisters, Dream and Variations’’ which was awarded an Iris for Best Original Score, Documentary Film, Québec Cinema (2021) and the Award of Excellence for Original Score The Indie Fest, La Jolla, California USA. (2021). In 2018 she received a CALQ “Research Creation ‘’ Grant to write and arrange new music and visual projections to enrich Syngja’s performances.
