uniE613 Natalie Taylor's Surrender - A Cover by Xanthe Call
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOWjMHo61C4 Surrender is a cover of an original song by Natalie Taylor. The vocals and electric guitars were recorded live using a Rode NT2A for the vocals and a SM57 for the electric guitars. All other sounds were recorded using MIDI in Pro Tools. This song is an EDM Pop rendition of the original track, which belongs to the Singer/Songwriter genre.
    uniE613 Coldplay's Yellow - A Cover by Xanthe Call
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkDIQ2xaGu0 Yellow is a cover of an original song by Coldplay. This was recorded live using a left and right microphone on the piano and a microphone for vocals. This was so the listener could feel as if they were there in the room for the performance.
uniE613 Coldplay's Fix You - A Cover by Xanthe Call
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWPu-NzmnJE Fix You is an instrumental cover of an original song by Coldplay. The chords were created using the Soft Piano sound from LABS. The melody is created using a flute with the harmony being played on a trumpet. These two instruments complimented each other well and were great for the calm-sounding melody. Harp and Piccolo melodies were added in the last chorus to add to the layers of the song to create a full sound. All four instruments used in the melody are from Spitfire Audio’s BBC Symphony Orchestra plug-in. The string accompaniment was also created using Spitfire Audio’s BBC Symphony Orchestra plug-in. The violins, viola, cello, and double bass are all playing different elements of the chords played by the piano. These same instruments are then duplicated at the end playing spiccato notes. This is to allow this section to sound larger as if there is a full orchestra playing. A harp and celeste are also heard playing arpeggios to add to the atmosphere of the song. A violin playing a tremolo is heard in a few sections to add to the high frequencies in the song.
uniE613 Lighter Than Air by Xanthe Call
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSkefFAqZpw Melody The melody inspiration was created in the program Orca and edited to create a melody that fits with the song. The sound for the melody was created using a sample sound from TheFatRat and a Harp. The chorus then added an Arpeggiator to the melody to randomise the notes but keep the outline similar. The bridge added a Vibraphone playing arpeggios to build up to the drop for the last chorus. The last chorus combined all three melodies - the main melody, the faster-arpeggiated melody, and the harp melody to add to the layers of the last chorus to create a full sound. Chords The chords played through the song were created using the Plectrum Pad sound in Apple’s Logic Pro. The chords were duplicated and then panned left and right to create a wider sound. Bass The bass line was created using 4 instruments from Logic Pro: the Warm Synth Pad, Fretless Electric Bass, Liverpool Bass, and Subby Base. These were layered to create a fuller bass line. The song would have sounded quite empty without the many different bass sounds. Three of the bass sounds played the same notes but had two different octaves to create a unique result. One of the three was also duplicated and panned left and right to give a wider sound. The fourth bass played two notes every beat to add flavour to the bass line. Drums The drums start with a simple kick drum for the intro and then move to a four-beat in verse one. The kick drum returns by itself in the build-up to the chorus until the drum fill sample from the Apple Loop Library is heard during the transition. A four-beat drum loop sample is also added. This sample includes a few fills to add that extra flare to the chorus. The bridge changed the kick up a bit with a heartbeat-type rhythm to differentiate the bridge from the rest of the song. The last chorus combined all drum beats and also added an open hi-hat to create a full-sounding chorus. Vocals The vocals for each chorus were a sample called EDM Vocal FX Chops from Sample Focus. This was to ensure that the song followed the characteristics of the electronic pop genre. Another sample from Sample Focus called Hey Kids Vocals was placed on the beat before each chorus to add to the fun and excitement of the song. The last vocal layer was a vocal echo sample from TheFatRat. This was used to create the atmosphere of each chorus. The last chorus then combined all vocal sounds. The first vocal sound was also doubled. The vocal echo was also doubled with the duplicate being pitched up to create a harmony. This all created the full sound that is heard in the last chorus. Sound FX A crash and a flutter sample from TheFatRat were used to create risers to transition between each section of the song.
    uniE613 Cosmic by Xanthe Call
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHDyag2yv1c Chords The chords for Cosmic were a sample from the Apple Loop Library. These were duplicated several times to create three layers with some of them being arpeggiated. There is also a guitar sample from the Apple Loop Library. Bass The same process from the previous song Lighter Than Air was used when creating the bass line for Cosmic. There are three layers in 2 octaves with one layer playing shorter and quicker notes. Drums The drums in Cosmic were created with the Solaris Kit in Apple’s Logic Pro. There are a few different variations of drum beats to differentiate each section of the song with the chorus having more instruments from the drum kit to create a larger sound. A clap is also heard in the chorus on beats two and four with a double clap on beat four of every fourth bar. A drum fill sample from the Apple Loop Library is heard to transition between the verse and chorus. Sound FX Risers, guitars, claps, drops, and pads are all used to create the atmosphere of the song. Without these, the song would sound very empty.
