Job Description
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction is seeking a Technical Writer to join the Customer Services Team under the Division of Libraries and Technology. This role involves supporting a statewide data collection program called WISEdata, which integrates with other systems to streamline data collection and reduce redundancy. The Technical Writer will be responsible for creating and maintaining user-facing documentation, training materials, and general communications related to WISE applications and Customer Services efforts. The position requires collaboration with internal teams and adherence to objectives, priorities, and deadlines established by program area leaders and the Customer Services Team manager.
Requirements
Required Skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience performing external communications
- Ability to work well independently
- Ability to process and document a fundamental understanding of end-to-end customer experience integration and dependencies
- Preparation and maintenance of documentation and training materials
- Experience writing about a technical software system
Required Technical Skills:
- Ability to grasp technical concepts and communicate with product owners and subject matter experts
- Proficiency with Google suite
Preferred Experience:
- Experience working with education software systems at the school, district, or state levels
- Understanding of application programming interface (API) technologies
- Knowledge of data warehousing and reporting
- Experience with Drupal webpage content management
- Experience writing knowledge base articles
Top Skills & Years of Experience:
- At least 1 year of experience in strong written and verbal communication skills and performing external communications
- Ability to process and document a fundamental understanding of end-to-end customer experience integration and dependencies
- Ability to grasp technical concepts and communicate with product owners and subject matter experts
- Proficiency with Microsoft suite
Nice to Have Skills:
- Understanding of application programming interface (API) technologies
- Knowledge of data warehousing and reporting
- Experience with Drupal webpage content management
- Experience writing knowledge base articles
Additional Information
This role will involve working one day per week on internal DPI documentation for software upgrades and revising IT self-help guides. The remainder of the role will focus on creating and maintaining web content, user guides, knowledge-based articles, and communications such as a monthly newsletter related to data applications and processes. Preferred experience includes working with education software systems at the school, district, or state levels.
