Job Description

The role of the User Experience Designer involves participating in four distinct delivery phases governed by the Ontario Digital Service Design playbook. These phases include Discovery, Alpha, Beta, and Live, where the designer is responsible for producing various deliverables to ensure user-centered designs and agile methodologies are effectively implemented.

In the Delivery Phase 1 (Discovery), the UX Designer identifies user needs and long-term business goals through user research, facilitating kickoff meetings, and establishing relevant models and reports. Phase 2 (Alpha) focuses on testing hypotheses and creating prototypes, utilizing methods like Design Sprints to validate user needs. In the Beta phase, real service builds are developed and tested through Agile ceremonies. Finally, Phase 4 (Live) is about continuous improvement of the service, involving ongoing research and usability testing.

Requirements

Experience and Skill Set Requirements:

Must Haves:

• Extensive experience in UX design best practices with a focus on mobile-first and responsive design.
• 3+ years of relevant experience in complex projects, ensuring alignment with user-centered design processes and agile methodologies.
• Demonstrated communication and mediation skills with stakeholders to keep projects on track.

Nice to Have:

• Expertise in UX software (e.g., JustInMind, InVision, Sketch, Adobe Creative Cloud) and coding skills (HTML5, CSS3, JS, React, Angular, NodeJS).

Skill Set Requirements:

User Experience Design:

• Ability to iterate designs efficiently.
• Degree or diploma in graphic design; usability, human-computer interaction, or technical writing is advantageous.
• Experience facilitating user research and usability testing, including accessibility compliance testing.

Relationship Management:

• Experience in strategies for overcoming resistance to change and ensuring balanced project collaboration.
• Ability to work within Agile (SCRUM) methodologies.

Technical Skills:

• Expertise in UX software and basic coding skills (React, Angular, NodeJS preferred).

Soft Skills:

• Strong communication skills for design processes and team collaboration.
• Excitement for teamwork and stakeholder engagement.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.

Other Information

The candidate will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of user experience design, ensuring continuous research and usability testing in the Live phase. This role requires a proactive approach to enhance user satisfaction and functionality in digital services.
