Job Description
The Website UX Designer will be responsible for preparing visual specifications and graphical assets for unique web pages, page templates, and ad-hoc asset creation. The visual design deliverables will be handed off to Burning Man software engineers for implementation. This is a temporary, part-time role (approximately 20 hours per week) based in San Francisco, running from March 1st, 2025 to August 1st, 2025.
The goal of the project is to create visually appealing, easy to navigate, informative, mobile-friendly, and scalable designs for a new website that captures the vibrancy of Burning Man culture. The website serves as a central hub for information about the Burning Man event, Regionals, the Burning Man Project, and the community.
Requirements
Required qualifications include:
- Burning Man Affinity: A deep understanding and appreciation of the Burning Man culture and ethos.
- Design System Proficiency: Proven ability to work with established design tools (e.g., Figma) to create reusable components and templates. Ability to visualize design concepts through storyboards, process flows, and sitemaps.
- UX/UI Design Expertise: Strong grasp of user-centered design principles and capability to create intuitive and engaging user experiences.
- Web Design Skills: Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and responsive design principles, plus experience delivering workflows, hierarchies, wireframes, and mockups.
- Familiarity with Gutenberg Blocks: Understanding of the Wordpress Gutenberg platform.
- Accessibility Advocate: Familiarity with web accessibility standards and best practices.
- Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Compensation
The anticipated pay rate for this position is $40.00 to $50.00 per hour, with individual compensation dependent on factors such as prior experience and geographical location.
Additional Information
Physical requirements include primarily sedentary work; no special demands are needed.
