Job Description

This is an exciting contract opportunity for passionate Website Designers within the Victorian State Government, part of a dynamic software development team focused on creating and maintaining web-based applications vital to the education sector across Victoria. The Website Designer will lead the creation of quality, visually engaging designs that enhance the user experience of the website. This position involves collaboration with project managers, developers, and other stakeholders to ensure the website meets both aesthetic and functional requirements while adhering to best practices in website accessibility and branding.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess the following qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Website Designer or in a similar role, preferably within the government or public sector.
  • Proficiency in website design software and technologies, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing a variety of website design projects and creative skills.
  • A solid understanding of visual design, colour theory, typography, and user experience principles.

Responsibilities

  • Manage cross-functional delivery with a small project team and collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand project objectives, provide expert advice, gather requirements, and translate them into effective design solutions.
  • Conduct research and analysis consistent with organizational objectives.
  • Create intuitive, engaging, and responsive designs to optimize user experience.
  • Develop wireframes, prototypes, and mock-ups to communicate design concepts effectively to internal teams and stakeholders.
  • Implement best practices in website accessibility (WCAG compliance) and ensure compliance with Victorian Government branding and style requirements.
  • Create documentation for website design processes, standards, and guidelines, including brand artefacts.
