Skedastic - Economics YouTube channel
What’s the project, and what do you need from an expert?
I’m developing a YouTube channel focused on making economics more accessible, engaging, and visually compelling. The core idea is to break down complex economic concepts—like inflation, money, or central banking—into content that is clear, well-structured, and designed for a general audience.
The project was born from my academic journey. I studied Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) at LSE and am now completing a Master’s in Economics.
Along the way, I realised that even trained economists struggle to answer fundamental questions like:
What is Economics?
What is Money?
Should we trust economic experts?
If these concepts are difficult for professionals to define, it’s no wonder the public finds them confusing. That’s the gap I want to help bridge—by creating visually-driven, narrative-led content that respects the viewer’s intelligence but makes abstract ideas feel accessible.
For visual inspiration, I’m looking at channels like Search Party – In a Nutshell, which use vibrant, minimalistic animation and crisp storytelling to explore big ideas. I want to adopt a similar visual approach—clean metaphors, consistent motion design, and colour-coded storyboarding—to tell powerful, intuitive stories about how the economy works and why it matters.
I’ve already written a version 1 script for the first video (“What is Economics?”) and am currently developing storyboards and brand identity for the channel.
What I’m looking for from an expert:
Creative input on animation and motion design, particularly in simplifying complex ideas into clean visual metaphors.
Feedback on storyboarding and visual narrative structure.
Guidance on tools/software/workflows best suited for this type of educational animation.
Optional: Advice on branding, visual consistency, and building a recognisable design language across the channel.
My goal is to launch with high-quality, visually engaging content that has the potential to scale—reaching a broad audience and filling a gap in how economics is taught and talked about online.
