Job Description

CBSNews.com is looking for a 3-month term Freelance Digital Producer to write, edit, and produce news coverage across platforms for the Miami and Dallas-Fort Worth stations. This role is responsible for creating digital breaking news coverage, writing and editing stories across various topics, clipping and optimizing videos on CBSNews.com and YouTube, and executing growth initiatives across platforms.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, produce, and update web coverage of news stories, gathering the latest information from various sources, while adhering to CBS News standards.
• React quickly to breaking news by writing and publishing articles and running live blogs.
• Clip and optimize videos for CBSNews.com, YouTube, and other platforms, crafting compelling, SEO-friendly headlines and descriptions.
• Manage the station’s homepage to showcase the best of our journalism.
• Collaborate with reporters and producers to publish top reporting online.
• Proactively plan content around key news events and tentpoles.
• Track content performance and use analytics to inform story selection across platforms.
• Send push alerts on breaking news, weather, and high-interest stories.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in a digital breaking news environment with a proven ability to react quickly as news develops.
• A skilled writer capable of producing quality copy under deadline pressure.
• Experience executing SEO strategies.
• A knack for framing content engagingly for a digital audience.
• Deep familiarity with analytics platforms such as Google Analytics, Omniture, Chartbeat, and Parse.ly.
• A collaborative team player.
