Location: San Francisco, CA

Contract: Full-time, Full-time

Job Description

The Website UX Designer is responsible for the preparation of visual specifications and graphical assets for unique pages, page templates, and ad-hoc asset creation. These visual design deliverables will be handed off to Burning Man software engineers for implementation. The role is temporary and part-time (approximately 20 hours per week) from March 1st, 2025, to August 1st, 2025, based in San Francisco, CA. The deadline to apply is 5:00 pm Pacific on February 10th, 2025.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Burning Man Affinity: A deep understanding and appreciation of Burning Man culture and ethos.
  • Design System Proficiency: Proven ability to work within established design tools (e.g., Figma) to design reusable components and templates, and visualize design concepts through storyboards, process flows, and sitemaps.
  • UX/UI Design Expertise: Strong grasp of user-centered design principles to create intuitive and engaging user experiences, with an eye for great design in web and graphic formats.
  • Web Design Skills: Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with knowledge of responsive design principles and demonstrated delivery of workflows, hierarchies, content organization, wireframes, mockups, and final HTML assets.
  • Familiarity with Gutenberg blocks: Understanding of the WordPress Gutenberg platform.
  • Accessibility Advocate: Familiarity with web accessibility standards and best practices.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Note: Relevant experience gained through other means is encouraged to be shared in the application.

Additional Information

The scope of work includes but is not limited to:

  • Preparation of low fidelity wireframes and high fidelity visual design specifications for desktop and mobile.
  • Documentation and knowledge sharing to assist junior staff in understanding Burning Man culture and business practices.
  • Collaboration to develop training materials and pursue ongoing learning in their area of expertise.
  • Website deliverables will provide information about Burning Man events, Regionals, the Burning Man Project, culture, and serve as a community platform for engagement.

Physical requirements for this role are primarily sedentary in nature without special demands.
